Making a Difference

The idea for P.O.L.O .  was concieved in June 2006 by Jacob Shelley.  After learning about the number of street childen and their needs, from a friend (Ruth Womack) who had recently returned from Romania,  Jacob decided to start an outreach to help the orphaned street children of Romania.
The initial plan for P.O.L.O. was to put together backpacks filled with things that the street kids desperately needed that could make their lives a little bit better. The backpacks would contain the following; a fleece blanket, socks, winter gloves, lifelong flashlight, toothbrush, toothpaste,  soap, shampoo, and a  small stuffed animal.  With everything in a backpack the children could sleep with it on, preventing other street kids from stealing from them while they sleep.

2007 Project-Timisoara, RO

In June 2007, Jacob traveled to Timisoara, Romania to distribute backpacks to the street children of the city, and share the love of God with them.  P.O.L.O was able to provide 250 street-kids, homeless men and women, and gypsy children with backpacks, and left supplies for 250 more that have now been distributed.  We were also able to provide aporoximately 100 meals for street-kids and homeless men and women.

Support

The 2007 Project was mainly supported by donations from individuals, members of Rock Hill Christian Fellowship, and the First Baptist Church of Cason, Tx.

The Pine Tree Junior High PALS group (lead by Karen Darby), also helped support the 2007 Project with money they had raised throughout the year, and by donating  small stuffed animals to go into the backpacks.

Future Plans

P.O.LO. plans to help more children  in Romania in the future and is open to opportunities to do work in any other countries in which God opens doors.

"Eventually I would like to open a shelter for the street children of Romania, where they can get a warm meal, shower, have a place to sleep, and learn about our Lord Jesus  Christ."

-Jacob Shelley
